About Us
Bristol Abbey's Don't Be Jelly "Fish"
Bristol Abbey is a small, home-based breeding program located in beautiful Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. We have been owned and loved by Parson Russell Terriers for over 25 years and are active in a variety of sports with our dogs, including conformation dog shows and both Rally and traditional Obedience competitions. We are equally committed to ensuring every dog has the chance at a wonderful life, which is why we also remain active in the rescue community.
At present, we share our home with our Parsons: Branson, Bridget, and Gigi, the foundation of our breeding program, as well as our four Russell Terriers: Beckham, Dior, Posh, and Seven. All of our dogs live in our home with us and are beloved family members.
Our Philosophy
We believe that the primary job of any dog in today's world is to be a wonderful pet. Ensuring that each litter gets off to the right start is the job of committed breeders, and we take this responsibility very seriously. That is why, in addition to health testing, we also insist that all of our breeding stock pass either a Canine Good Neighbour or Temperament Test.
We also raise our puppies with the Puppy Culture enrichment program which employs a variety of scientifically-based practices and protocols to make the most of the critical first 12 weeks of a puppy's life. In fact, we are so committed to this unique puppy rearing model that in 2017, Debbie organized a seminar by Puppy Culture founder, Jane Killion, to share the program with other local breeders, trainers, and rescue organizations.
Giving Back
Parsons and Russells have brought great joy to our lives. In addition to being active competitors, we believe it is important to support our breed and our sport wherever possible. Debbie is a member in good standing of the Canadian Kennel Club and the Blue Ridge Russell Terrier Club (USA).
